Shayna was raised in an abusive home. When she was 3, her father came
home one evening, drunk as usual. Her parents got into an argument when
her father became violent, punching her mother so hard that she fell
down a flight of stairs. Both she and their unborn child were killed
instantly. Shayna's father was charged with murder, but he was able to
get a good lawyer and the case was dismissed.
As she
grew older, her father started turning his fury toward Shayna. Any love
Shayna knew from her mother was all but lost in time. Survival meant
burying her feelings, appearing tougher then she felt, and staying out
of her dad's way whenever possible. She survived by the skin of her
teeth, stealing to get clothes and food.
Finally,
Shayna became fed up with her father. Instead of going home after
school, she took off on her bike, stealing food and keeping out of sight
of police officers and other adults until finally reaching the shores
of Meadow Glen. Still not wanting to be caught, Shayna made a point to
stay out of the way of adults and found a secluded place to live. Hoping
for a better future, but unable to attend a normal school, Shayna
signed up for home schooling. Will Shayna survive or will she be caught
and sent back to her father? Will she be able to make a better life for
herself?
